hi, saya ada masalah nak connect through wifi.
im using riger modem, then dirct connect to my zyxel wifi rouy\ter, bila nak connect, akan keluar, ‘local only” meaning that no internet acces.. then my fren kata kena ubah from pppoe to dhcp, how to do that???

if possible kalau u can ym with me then consult me, sebab dah berlarutan lama, memang just dialing aje yg boleh lepas through internet, wireless jadi local only.. help…

  2. Syakir says:

    azree,

make sure your cabling is correct. from the modem to the router, connect through the WAN port. make sure both DHCP Server is enable on modem and router.

    settings:-
modem (bridge mode, DHCP server enable, NAT disable)
router (router mode, PPPoE, DHCP server enable, NAT enable)

just browse the pages in both the modem and the router and find the things listed in the brackets. everything should work.

ym is not an option due to the fact when you need to ‘Apply’ a setting, your internet will be disconnected and you’ll loose all the discussion for reference..

    good luck.

  5. Fais says:

hmm…you sure are genius! where did u learn all of this bro?

  6. Big E says:

    Bro..

    Need your expert assistance.

    My setup:
    Modem: Riger DB102 modem
    IP: 192.168.1.1

Wireless router: Belkin Wireless N+ (F5D8235-4)
    IP: 192.168.1.2

As you can see, both modem + router are in same IP segment of 192.168.1.x. My PC also in the same IP segment of 192.168.1.x.

    My issue:
I can’t seem to be able to Ping the modem. I’d like to login & manage the modem wirelessly. I have no issue if i connect direct to the modem (using the LAN port)

why I need to login to the modem? I’m subscribed to 4MB Streamyx from tmnut. sometimes, my connection is super slow, and when I login to the modem through the LAN port, I can see that I’m subscribed to a 2MB package. Then.. after case log to tmnut, issue reolved, I can see the status shows as 4MB again. It’s annoying if I hv to physically connect to the LAN port instead of through WiFi.

  7. idris says:

    hi.
    its me again.
1 question, where do i tick the NAT?

  8. Syakir says:

    simman,
Disable ICS and follow the tutorial above. you should able to get 2 laptops (or more) online in no time.

    Big E,
With the current settings, you WILL NOT able to login to the modem directly. Eventhough the modem and router is in the same IP segment, they are being isolated using different ports (WAN & LAN) which only linked using a routing table. To check your DSLAM settings, you need to use a direct cable to the modem. There is no workaround for this unless you disable the WAN port on the router and plug-in the cable from the modem into the LAN port which I don’t recommend because the router will be useless (the modem will become the router and the router only functional as a switch).

    idris,
The NAT option is supposed to be somewhere around the page where you enter the username and password for Streamyx.

  9. Big E says:

    Tq bro..

sigh.. I’ll hv to physically connect to the modem every time my connection suffers a snail crawl..

  10. idris says:

the operation status says, link down. i already refresh the page and still link down. what to do?

  11. Syakir says:

    idris,

Link down means your PPPoE is not connected. the usual problem is wrong username@streamyx or password. please double check. better yet, you can take a screenshot and leave your email here so I can contact you later.

    Cheers!

  12. idris says:

Ok here are some screen shots.

This is the default home page.

    http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/7528/80199985.png

then i went to the WAN page. Open up PPP interface and filled in exactly like u said. like this

    http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/9799/28539718.png

then after i pressed submit, sometimes the page doesn’t go anywhere, or the PPP interface is accepted but the link is down.

so what is my problem? and tell me what to do after the link is up. after commit and reboot, should i turn it off and plug in the cable into router or what? tell me everything please. i’m soo desperate. tell me step by step. with pictures if you can. thank you very much!
    this is my email. iakmal@hotmail.com

    • Syakir says:

      hi idris,

      USE DHCP = ENABLE
      MTU = 1492
      TICK at NEVER TIMEOUT

double check your ATM VC make sure it’s 0 / 35

Please submit your front page of the router after you did all the settings just to make sure everything is in the right order ;)

anyway, what’s the network setup are you trying to do here? 1 modem to switch to multiple PC right? no standalone router right?

  13. idris says:

ok. after i did what you told me to, its still link down.
ok the page looks like this.

    PPP interface page.

    http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/1999/27280974.png

    Router home page.

    http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/452/68206581.png

    then what?

my network setup? its from 1 modem (riger) to a wireless zyxel router.
and yes its a standalone router i think.

    • Syakir says:

      Hi Idris,

Go to the EOA page and delete the eoa-0 connection. Commit & Reboot once. I think that’s your problem. Please revert here if everything is solve.

  14. idris says:

    OH MY GOODNESS……
    It WORKS.
i didn’t even delete the eoa-0. changed some of my settings and it worked.
    u helped me so much.
    THANK YOU !!!!!!

  15. Arthur says:

hi,i have the same problem as iris.. it seems like the eoa-0 could not be deleted. “Error: The interface is being used as a bridge port”. i have tried evthing on top.. but always ‘link down’. hope u can solve my problem, ty a lot!

  16. Syakir says:

    idris,

You are welcome. But according to your network devices, I highly recommend that your Zyxel Wireless Router handles the PPPOE rather than the Riger modem. Here’s my advice.

Riger Modem (Bridge – No setting needed to be done) connected to Zyxel Wireless Router WAN port (PPPoE – Streamyx password is entered here) then to Switch/PCs/Laptop

    Arthur,

You need to make it as router mode first, enable the ppp-0 then only then can disable/delete the eoa-0. Please commit & reboot once after finish configure everything above.

    ppp-0 = pppoe/pppoa
    eoa-0 = ethernet over atm/bridge mode

if you don’t want to delete it, you just need to disable it, somehow :)

  17. Dan says:

    hi,

i have same problem like Arthur and idris

not able to go for pppoe mode

    help me

  18. dan says:

    hi,

i m already trying all these steps, all the post by u, idris are carefully read and applying and re-trying pppoe connect my router several times but not working.

on first day i install the bridge mode connection
after an hour i change it on pppoe mode. than working fine. all night going well.
next day automatically data light become off. from that day till today i m trying pppoe several times but not working.
    bridge mode work sucessfully,

many times i reset the router and go pppoe with ur steps which u have
    wrote here.

but i m fail till now.

    help me syakir

  19. Syakir says:

    Hello Dan,

Please take a screenshot of the mainpage AFTER you set the PPPoE and the PPPoE page (the page you key in your user/pass) aswell. Easier to troubleshoot.

Will try to help as much as I can :)

  20. Syakir says:

    Hi Dan,

Do not use the ’smartconfig’ or any other config tools they give. Just delete the eoa-0 and follow the above instructions.

You need to disable/delete your eoa-0. Commit & Reboot. And then recheck your ppp-0 settings (username/password) back. Enable DHCPD for that interface.

That should work. Whatever you do, please delete the eoa-0. You can enable it by pressing the magic ‘reset’ button or factory setting if one day you decided to be on the Bridge again.

Get back here and let me know the result.

  21. Dan says:

    Hello Syakir,

    Thank You So Much..

I am really thankful to you for helping me configure my router.

hope to keep in touch.. God Bless You..

  22. Dan says:

    thanks for replying Syakir.

    so, how are you?

  23. Arthur says:

I have done all step required and I’m sure i didn’t miss any step..
    Here is the problem..
My house has 2 db102 modem running, with each different line.
However, this 2 modem cannot be in PPPoE mode in same time, either 1 is unable to connect to internet if both are in PPPoE mode.. Even technician from streamyx couldn’t help..
Few months ago, I backup the configuration of another modem and loaded it into my modem, is this the cause of ‘this problem’? Thanks a lot.. looking forward your answer..

  24. Syakir says:

    Hi Author,

Please make sure each modem is using different user ID for Streamyx. One login can only connect once. Other than that, make sure both modem is not connected to the same network or not it will mess up the routing.

  25. haziq says:

    haziq,

I got some problem with my riger router..my problems is..
i want to set my Counter-Strike Condition Zero game server
to my riger..and howto do that..hope someone will help me
about this..you just can add me at YM…
    “haziq_apc@yahoo.com”

  26. K says:

    haziq,

to make everything easy, use the DMZ function. just point it to your computer IP address.

  27. mike says:

    hi,

i am using riger db 102 modem, the default is auto connect but now i don’t want use auto, i want manual connect, how to cancel the auto connect part?

    thanks

    mike

    • K says:

      Hello Mike,

Just press the reset button for few seconds. It should reverted to the default ‘Bridge’ mode.

  28. zoey says:

hi syakir.hope that u can help me here.there is a problem with my streamyx connection.before this i’m using pppoe configuration for my riger db102 modem but after some time (about 9-10 hours) it will suddenly disconnected.it happens everyday and i have to restart the modem everyday to get the connection back.this is not happening when i’m using manual connection and why is that?is there any other configuration that i should know?

    • K says:

to my experience, the ‘router’ is not up to the task of being ‘the’ router. it was built to be a modem (bridge) mode only. the router function is just an additional software to cramp the memory of the modem itself. there’s no configuration to overcome this. by making it a router mode, it will get hot fast. unless you have a special ventilation for the device.

my advice, get another standalone router (i use linksys wireless router) and connect the modem to another router. then fire away!

  29. zoey says:

hi k.thanks for the reply.so you’re saying that the riger modem is just a ‘wannabe’ router la….and yeah..i’ve noticed that when i changed the configuration pppoe(auto) into manual connection, i’ve lost some speed.1 more thing, i forgot to tell u that when the last time i’m configuring my modem into pppoe mode, i’m using the ’smart configuration’ and not by configuring through the WAN tab.is there any difference?or was that why i’m keep getting disconnected?

    thanks in advance.

    • K says:

      hi zoey,

using smart configuration shouldn’t be much different from setting it manually. if you are having frequent disconnection, maybe you need to check your phone line. there’s so much possibilities of why the frequent disconnection can occur.

      cheers :)

syakir.ak pkai streamyx billion adsl/router yg tmnet bg ni.

then,,nape tym ak nk setting ZyXEL tu gne http://192.168.1.1 xbleh ek.cable ak da sambung betul da.bile ak connect cable dr pc ke ethernet wirelees router,n dr modem billion ke Wan Port ZyXEL,connection status terus jadi limited and no connectivity.
    hope anybody can help

    • K says:

      jon,

please refer to all the comments above. you need to reset back your modem into Bridge Mode. connect your modem to the WAN port on Zyxel Wireless Router. make sure both DHCPD is turn on.

  31. zoey says:

halo bro.after going through lots of forum and comments from other riger user i came down to conclusion that the riger db102 modem is the most problematic modem given by Tmnet.its nothing to do wth my streamyx connection or other things.the modem just cannot support its full potential as a ‘router’.it’ll went weng-weng…pening…and all sort of penyakit after you switch it on for too long in pppoe mode.
anyway…thanks for all your advises bro.Salam…

  32. NaKaLsKiT says:

kinda agree with you there zoey. i just sign up to streamyx combo package and they gave me the free wifi modem router. but guest what ? the security for wireless only support WEP. hahah. darn !

the DB102 modem is even worst. bad UI, no Dynamic DNS option. no DOS attach protection !!

syakir, if you can, please show the step by step to setup the DMZ.
let say the static is : 192.168.1.100
    riger modem ip : 192.168.1.1
    my wifi AP : 192.168.1.254

    my connection
TM > modem > wifi (LAN PORT) *WAN Port got struct by lightning* hehe** so to use the wifi ap as dialer is not an option.

i’ve configured the modem for auto-dialer. done that. no problem with that. DHCP using the wifi ap, not the modem.
    DHCP settings : default router > 192.168.1.1
    default dns : 202.188.0.133 & 202.188.1.5

no problem with DHCP (through wireless) to connect to internet (using it now). just wanna open DMZ for the server. tq

    many thanx in advanced.

    • K says:

      Hi NakaLsKiT,

To enable the DMZ, find the DMZ function within the modem and the AP. since you use the LAN port for the modem on the AP, you’ll be needing to set the static IP both on modem and AP DMZ if the client is using WiFi.

I don’t think there’s a DMZ on the modem, you need to do a port forwarding on the modem to the static IP. Try searching ZXDSL modem howto on the forwarding. The firmware is the same.

      Cheers.

  33. alfa says:

salam bro…i’m happy all this while when suddenly this problem occured..it disconnected automatically..even worst,it can be set like it used to be..i mean the setting that u thought b4 wont work..link down, the data light wont blink…it also stated auth failure..whats that?
    help me brothers…….

  34. jay says:

My i know how to set ADSL DB102 modem to run in auto connection…

  35. K says:

@alfa: it’s time to call our beloved ISP, TMNet! either need to replace the modem or something wrong with the circuit.

    @jay: auto connection??

  36. Alfred says:

    Hi,
I would like to ask a question. I have a ADSL DB102 modem, and i want to connect it to 2 PCs. How do i do it??

  37. sha says:

i use db102 riger modem. connect with router 24-port. 1-5 pc can connect but pc6 and above can’t.please answer what happen.

    • k says:

check your network card. can the pc communicate the other computers? can it ping the router? usually this is because the port is faulty.

  38. dith says:

hi..im just wondering if you could help me out here. i had been struggling with this riger db108-wl modem, i rechecked all the cables’ connections and when it comes to installing it with a cd..im always stucked at step number 3!! i did try resetting it. i configured everything and there it goes again. oh how i wasted 6 hours of my life!

    • k says:

      hello dith,

u don’t need the installation disc to configure anything. it’s just going to messed up your life if you do. just plug in all the cables involved and configure via web browser is much more easier than using the installation disc. that model is an actual wireless router + modem. so this how to is not suitable. just make sure you tick the NAT option and you’re ready to go!

      cheers.

  39. jack says:

erm hello, i have a problem on my riger db 108WL modem. I recently installed I cant seem to enter the modem interface when i type 192.168.1.1. It keeps giving me a bad request page. Pls i seek guidance. Tho my internet is still working and my modem is connected to a 8-port router which is also connected to 6 pcs. TY

    • k says:

      Hi Jack,

If I were you, I’ll reset the modem to the factory setting and see how it goes from there. The modem is built with dirt cheap component. Don’t expect it will survive very long. Since we’re using the modem without turning it off at all, expect for the worst.

  40. Deneb says:

    Hello Syakir,

i have the same problem the modem suddenly crashed and have to change the operation mode to bridge to connect internet. After connecting through bridge for couple of hour, the data LED is on. Does it solve the problem. (FYI, im using RIGER db102 ADSL modem)

    • k says:

      Hi Deneb,

I think the modem is dying. Firmware seems to be unstable. Use while you can, and when the time comes, just replace it for free! ;)

  41. arepeaceDNA says:

    Hi syakir…
    gotta ask 1 question…
im using the same modem above, but instead of connecting to router, im using a switch.

until recent, i dont have to key in my password/username before connect to internet…in other words it was autoconnect.

my question, how can i set back the streamyx username/password so that i need to key in them before connecting to internet?

really need your help…if you need the screenshots, do tell me…im ready to show them…

    thanks syakir

  42. arepeaceDNA says:

owh 1 more thing syakir…im sharing the connections with my friends…thats why im using switch… :)

    • k says:

      arepeaceDNA,

if you reset the modem to it’s original state (bridge mode), then you’ll need a computer to be as a gateway. just press the reset button behind the modem and it will be on bridge mode.

then on your computer, set the dialing mode, then share the connection :) .

  43. Pening says:

My Riger router will set 2 wireless connection automatically.. One with the password and another one is without the password. Can i change it to one wireless connection? More and more users are connecting my router.. I even set 6 channel only but it seems like no difference also… Can someone give me some advice?
