Garmin on S60 (Symbian OS) & Nokia NSeries

Most of my friends wasted RM70-RM100 to get the installation of Garmin on their handphones. So here’s a simple instruction on how to successfully install and configure your Garmin with Malaysia & Singapore map. I’m using Nokia N95 for this setup.

Here goes…

1. Download to your computer the Garmin Mobile XT for Symbian S60 3rd Edition, Ver. 5.00.10 from here.

2. Download to your computer Garmin Mobile XT Free Basemap, Ver. 4.xx.xx from here.

3. Download to your computer Garmin Mobile XT Support Files, Ver. 4.xx.xx from here.

4. Download the latest version of Malfreemap from here.

5. Connect your phone using USB and connect as a memory card function.

6. Now, run the recently downloaded files on the computer, one after another, in this order:

1. v4.xx.xxx Support File,
2. v4.xx.xxx Basemap File
3. GMXT v5.00.10

When prompted to choose storage space, point to your memory card (or phone memory on N95 8GB or N96)

7. Disconnect phone memory from computer. It’s time to configure Garmin on your phone. Go to your phone’s File Manager > Memory Card > Garmin > GarminMobileXT.sis and install the .sis file.

8. After that, go to Applications> run Garmin Mobile XT. It won’t connect to GPS satelite yet, so just ignore it.

9. You should have received your device unlock code from the manufacturer of Garmin, however if you haven’t, there are instructions on the Internet to guide you on how to get your. No help here. Sorry.

10. Copy the device unlock code and paste it in a notepad, then save the file as “SW.UNL”.

11. Reconnect your phone/memory to your computer.

12. Copy the SW.UNL file into \Garmin\ installation folder.

13. Then, run MFMvX.XX.exe, and copy gmapsupp.img into \Garmin\ folder.

14. Disconnect your phone from your computer.

15. Go to Applications > Garmin Mobile XT > Settings > System > Remote GPS > Select ‘Use Attached/Built-in GPS’ > Enable and it’s all done.

16. Go to Tools > Settings > General > Positioning > Positioning Method > uncheck all except the Integrated GPS if you are using the built-in GPS under Nokia settings, not Garmin!

* Assisted GPS = Using 3G connection. If you’re using unlimited plan, it’s okay to turn this on

* Bluetooth GPS = External GPS Receiver

* Network based = Based on the Telco tower triangular signal

17. Wait for satellite signal to strengthen and then you can start navigating around various places with confidence!

18. You’re done! Simple aight? Save RM70 already and always have the updated maps! Why pay when the map creator team is giving it for free?
